Poem

We Need You, Lord

We need you, Lord.

Like lost wanderers in a burning, empty desert

thirst for cool, clean water,

we long for you to quench us.

In a world gone progressively mad,

with chaos all around us,

we seek refuge in the order and purpose of your law.

With evil sneaking, leaking everywhere,

spreading heavy darkness,

creating feelings of emptiness,

we hunger for your goodness and light.

Turn us around, Lord, we pray;

retrieve your sheep who have gone astray.

Draw us to the satisfaction

of your purity and righteousness.

Cleanse us, and make us more like you,

role models, examples, beacons,

for others who are searching for meaning for their lives.

Come, Lord Jesus.

We need you, Lord.

Can we glorify God trough playing sports? Is it wrong for a Christian to be into sports? Can playing sports bring harm to your spiritual life?

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)

How should a Christian view sports? We do understand that every aspect of a Christians life should be for God. How can we fit sports in here? Maybe sports should be my leisure time where I take a quick time-out from focusing on God and give my-self a little time to relax? Maybe sports are an exception to the verse above?

What is your thought on this? Leave a comment…

Re: This Thursday’s Bible Study Topic: Glorifying God Through Sports

This is absolutely awesome and VERY controversial! But don't all rush in at the same time to comment about it and shut the server down!

I often wondered about this myself, sure it may seem wrong how we can get carried away in a sport, so should be ban it all? Can you actually play a game for God's Glory? Honestly I don't think its possible in most cases, or in most sports.
But then on the other hand, debate is a type of sport as well, isn't it?

Re: This Thursday’s Bible Study Topic: Glorifying God Through Sports

The Word of God commends us to do everything for His Glory. Our whole life is Gods glorification. The verse above is not an exception when we are talking about sports. We cannot classify our life into sections which some pertain to God and others don't.

It doesn't make sense if we leave sports in their own category and say that they shouldn't be apart from our spiritual life.

Your next question would probably would be "How can this be done practically? How can I play sports and at the same time know that God is being glorified through this?

"THE JOY FACTOR"

We need to understand that God gave us humans ability to come up with different types of sports, for what reason? For interaction, bonding, quality time with each other.

He gave us sports so we can enjoy ourselves and friends. God gave us sports so that He would obtain joy from watching us (his precious creation) test his laws of gravity and physics.

When we play any type of sport we need to play it with joy. There shouldn't be any aggressiveness or fierce competition.

Its not about me and my skill. Its not about my good talents. Its not about impressing someone, but its all about the great and wonderful God who makes things enjoyable even here on this earth, not mentioning the heavens.

"THE GRATIFICATION FACTOR''

Every time you step on that field or court thank God that he gave you eyes, arms, legs for you to be able to complete certain tasks that some can't because of missing limbs or not having eyesight. Next time you are playing keep in mind that without your good health you would not be able to do this.

By giving gratitude to God you are glorifying Him. It is very important to have a thankful heart. When you are ungrateful to God you are depriving Him of His glory. You (a human being) was created to glorify Him and if you take on a different role for yourself and start satisfying your selfish ambitions and glorifying your ego, God will deal with you in a way that will be very disturbing to you.

Now ..devil likes to invert everything God does, therefore he gives his own ideas and opinions to humanity concerning sports and we see this through activity's that (have no logic or any sense if you ask my personal opinion) involves hitting, punching, kicking your opponent. Something is wrong with you if you think bringing harm to another human being is satisfying.

Such approach has no biblical foundation. The more you will study Gods Word and grow spiritually, the more you will be able to grasp the spiritual concept of true genuine love towards your neighbor. (And to hit someone just because that is the type of sport you are playing brings no justifying reasoning and states that you are missing pieces in understanding some spiritual matter.

If you have a comment or questions feel free to post them.
