Poem

We Need You, Lord

We need you, Lord.

Like lost wanderers in a burning, empty desert

thirst for cool, clean water,

we long for you to quench us.

In a world gone progressively mad,

with chaos all around us,

we seek refuge in the order and purpose of your law.

With evil sneaking, leaking everywhere,

spreading heavy darkness,

creating feelings of emptiness,

we hunger for your goodness and light.

Turn us around, Lord, we pray;

retrieve your sheep who have gone astray.

Draw us to the satisfaction

of your purity and righteousness.

Cleanse us, and make us more like you,

role models, examples, beacons,

for others who are searching for meaning for their lives.

Come, Lord Jesus.

We need you, Lord.

Humility is defined as-the quality or condition of being humble. Bible talks a lot about humility. It is very important for us Christians to have this quality. In Proverbs, we read that humility brings honor. Tell me who would not want to be respected or honored among people he/she is living around? So here, we have a key: humility! The absence of humility in a person brings growing of his pride and pride ends in a fall. So we can see that humility plays a big role in Christians life.

What are other reasons why humility is important for a Christian?

Re: This Thursday’s Bible Study Topic: Humility

what does being humble mean?

we can throw these terms (humility and humble) back and forth at each other and still have a hazy picture of what they are.

here are a few dictionary definitions that I thought could help clear things up:

HUMBLE: not proud or arrogant; modest: 'to be humble although successful.'
courteously respectful
to make meek: to humble one's heart.

MODEST:
1 placing a moderate estimate on one's abilities or worth
2: neither bold nor self-assertive

MEEK:
1 : enduring injury with patience and without resentment : mild
2 : deficient in spirit and courage : submissive
3 : not violent or strong : moderate

------------

Knowing these words helps paint a picture of what Humility is. Here is the dictionary definition of
Humility: the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.

we can associate all of the above definitions with humility, those are definitions from a secular perspective, now lets discuss in more detail, what this means from biblical perspective, how accurate are those definitions and how do they match up the Christian humility?

Re: This Thursday’s Bible Study Topic: Humility

Hello everyone!

Lets look at these verses:

Matthew 23:11-12 (New King James Version)

11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Matthew 20:26-28 (New King James Version)

26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Amazing! Jesus humbled himself. If He humbled himself how we ought to humble ourselves.

How do we humble ourselves?

Colossians 3:8-11 (New King James Version)

8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

May God help all of us.

Sincerely Paul S.

Re: This Thursday’s Bible Study Topic: Humility

As we can see humility needs to have evidence to be noticed. We cant say someone is humble without seeing his/her deeds.

Our heart, just like the Scripture says is deceitful. It can lie to ourselves. We can be the most proud-full person on the earth and think that we are very humble.

A sensor that would help us show where we stand in regards to humility is how we deal with other people.

The more humble a Christian is the more he raises others above himself.

Noticing how you value others and how you respect others, you can tell your humbleness.

Another sensor that would help us to determine how humble we are is how submissive we are to God in everything He tells us.

The more we follow what God wants from us, the more humility we carry.

If we disobey God we show our pride. In other words we say that we know whats best and how we should live our life. Suddenly it's not God who rules everything and to whom everything is subjected to, but we and our own pride takes over and starts bossing us and everyone around.

The power of humility is well underestimated in our days. A Christian who is humble is a very dangerous person to the dark world. He holds the power to be submissive to his Lord and when a solder knows the discipline of his Master and listens to all the orders he is very successful in the battlefield.

Humility is a strong quality ...but so undervalued in the world and sadly among many Christians.

Re: --Humility--

Hello everyone!

Philippians 2:5-11 (New King James Version)

The Humbled and Exalted Christ

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Being humble is being obedient to Gods Words.

Have a wonderful day my friends!
